Only Toyota Tundra offers a maxed out cab frame with its Crew Max. This is going to be changed very soon when the new 2018 RAM 1500 Mega Cab begin its serial production. This will be a new addition to the half-ton pickup production line which already has more than a couple of options for buyers.
2018 RAM 1500 Mega Cab – Exterior Changes
2018 RAM 1500 Mega Cab will easily be among the largest pickups. Spy photos show that this new model will have a longer wheelbase while accommodating for the larger cabin.
A split tailgate, slightly redesigned headlamps and more muscular hood are among the basic features which can be easily observed. An added touch on the hood gives it a distinct look from up front.
The grille sports a new design with the trademark large brand logo. It’s X-shaped design is what caught most industry pundit’s eyes.
This new model will come with the same engine options as the current generation. The two engine options which will be available are Chrysler’s 3.6 Pentastar and RAM’s very own 5.7 L Hemi V8.
The 3.6 L produces around 305 HP maximum power and 269 lb-ft of torque. This mill will be the base engine for this model.
The other option, 5.7 L Hemi V8 is among the most powerful production engine options available for half-ton pickups. With more than 400 HP of power and upwards 420 lb-ft of torque, this engine is for pure hauling purposes.
A diesel option will also be included in the line-up in the form of a 3.0 L V6. This engine is rumored to pump out around 240 HP and 420 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission and Drivetrain
This 2018 RAM 1500 Mega Cab is rumored to come with all possible drivetrain and transmission options. An 8-speed auto will come with all engines other than the Hemi. This large V8 will come with its very own 9-speed auto transmission with manual shift ability. Drivetrain options will include both 2WD and AWD. However, RAM is most likely to limit options to a dual rear wheel power axle.
Price and Release Date
Prices will increase only marginally with added unspecified interior info. Estimated price range is expected to stay within $27,000 and $45,000 with the addition of numerous in-cabin tech, luxury and bed packages. Arrival is still unknown; however it will probably hit the road by the end of the 2017. As far as competitors, it will go head-to-head with the Toyota Tundra Crew Max.
